William HG Kingston was a prolific English writer of stories, mainly for a young male audience. His book, The Fire Ships, was written in 1862 and takes place just after the Napoleonic War. This book's background setting is naval warfare, seamanship and sailing vessels. The story covers a period of probably 40 years and in some respects is written similar to a mystery novel. The plot deals with inheritance (or being cheated out of what might be rightfully yours), kidnapping and enemies that later become allies. The story is difficult to review since it is almost like a "soap" opera. I enjoyed the book very much and would recommend it. I intend to read more by this author.Product details
